Nintendo DS: Seattle Mariners Use the DS in New Ways

By: Robert Rodriguez - Published June 15, 2007 at 4:25 PM EDT - Writer Archive
If you bring your Nintendo DS to Safeco, which is home to the Seattle Mariners, expect to use your DS in many, many new ways.

It's no secret that the DS has been the hottest selling piece of gaming hardware for awhile now, nearly selling 3x its handheld competitor, Sony's PSP, since its release. But, who would of thought it would get so popular that a baseball team would allow (more like recommend) users to bring it to their games?

If fans bring their Nintendo DS/DS Lite to Safeco (home of Seattle Mariners), they will be able to take advantage of these innovative functions that the owners of the Mariners are making available:

  • Watch the Mariners network broadcast of games in real time right on the DS from almost any seat in the stadium - some of the controversial plays they don't show on the Jumbotron will still be able to be seen by fans...
  • Order food from your seat - use the DS Lite to order hot dogs, sodas, etc. using a credit card - which also keeps those long lines down at the ATMs where people are waiting to get more cash.
  • Access to players stats from all around the MLB.
  • Updated scores and information from other MLB games in progress.
  • Fans can compete against each other in trivia and word games.

There will be 17 download stations located all throughout the park so DS Lite users can download the software needed to access all of these functions along with vendors selling DS Lite's that have the Mariners logo displayed on the front cover.
