Nintendo DS: Gameboy kills boy

By: Bill Selles - Published January 05, 2007 at 7:58 AM EST - Writer Archive
A seven-year-old boy was killed in Thailand when he was electrocuted, apparently unplugging his Game Boy.
Reports are coming across the wire and on major gaming sites that the young boy, Connor O'Keefe, who killed Saturday in Thailand while on vacation, may have been a victim of his video game system. The boy, from England, had been swimming in the hotel pool before returning to the room. When he went to unplug the Game Boy charger from the wall, he was electrocuted. It is assumed at this time that the boy was still wet and water got into the electrical outlet.

The initial police report indicated that the boy simply was electrocuted when he touched the outlet due to being wet, but there is not growing speculation that the boy was attempting to unplug his Game Boy at the time. According to a statement by Nintendo issued to IGN, ""Nintendo wishes to offer its sincere condolences to the family of Connor O' Keefe. Details of the accident are currently unclear so we are unable to make any further comment at this stage."

Expect more updates as they become available.
