Forget movies, Nintendo's new DS Lite is taking over international flights in Japan.
Nintendo's plan to reach a new market looks to be moving stronger than ever today, as it was somewhat recently revealed that international JAL (Japanese Airlines) flights will be distributing the new DS Lite in-flight upon request for its upper class passengers. If you happen to be flying JAL transcontinental, make sure you get a first or executive class seat, that way you can play the likes of Mario Kart DS, DS Golf and a Brain Training game for both English and Japanese passengers.
Don't worry about all that WiFi screwing with the plane however, as the DS Lites on JAL have been specially developed without its wireless capability, which happens to be prohibited in-flight. The service however is entirely free of charge, and will continue through the month of August.
Japanese Airlines also released a few notes regarding the service on the JAL Nintendo DS Page.
Notes
- Please read the game manual carefully before playing.
- The Nintendo DS Lite consoles available on JAL flights are specially manufactured without wireless capabilities.
- The use of wireless devices on airplanes is prohibited. Passengers are asked to turn off all wireless capabilities for Nintendo DS or Nintendo DS Lite consoles they bring with them while onboard the airplane.
- The Civil Aviation Law prohibits the use of these consoles during takeoff and landing. Flight attendants will collect distributed Nintendo DS Lite consoles and earphones during takeoff and landing.
- The number of consoles on each plane is limited, and one may not be available upon request. The service is also limited to one console per passenger. We ask for your understanding in this matter.
- Please direct any questions to your flight attendant.
