As expected, Nintendo launched the new and improved reiteration of its popular DS handheld today in the US. DS Lite, which weighs in at more than 20% lighter than the original will try to further strengthen Nintendo's grip on the portable gaming market.
DID YOU KNOW? HUNDREDS OF NINTENDO FANS RALLY TO BUY LIGHTER, BRIGHTER NINTENDO DS LITE June 11, 2006 The Nintendo World store in New York became the site of a feeding frenzy of video game fans late Saturday as the first Nintendo DS™ Lite systems went on sale. The lighter, brighter versions of Nintendo DS™ attracted hundreds of loyal Nintendo fans, including some who lined up as early as noon on Saturday to buy the system, which went on sale at the stroke of midnight this morning. One hard-core fan even left a wedding party early and joined the line still wearing his tuxedo. Those who arrived early were rewarded for their devotion. The first 100 people in line who bought a Nintendo DS Lite received a free carrying case and a copy of the top-selling Brain Age™: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day. Some fans arrived dressed as their favorite Nintendo characters, which added to the atmosphere of fun and community. Many people brought along their original Nintendo DS systems and engaged in collegial wireless game matches. The event kicked off Nintendo’s “Summer of Lite,” a season-long celebration of the hot new DS Lite hardware. Nintendo DS Lite is less than two-thirds the size of the original and more than 20 percent lighter. Users can adjust its luminous screens to four different brightness settings for picture-perfect game play in any light setting. It is priced as low as $129.99 at retailers throughout the United States, and it comes in stylish Polar White with a raised DS logo on the cover. Through the end of March, Nintendo has sold nearly 17 million DS systems around the world. For more information about Nintendo DS Lite, please visit www.nintendods.com. --- |
